Embroiled in Embroidery

London-based artists Peter and Sally Nencini have repurposed vintage furniture and textiles in an unexpected way — by adding their own unique embroidery patterns. The result is truly a one-of-a-kind look that is nothing like your grandmother’s embroidery.

Building Wealth

Money can buy art. Or it can become art. Visual artist Kristi Malakoff has turned currency into sculpture with beautiful results. Below are some examples from her Polyhedra Series.

Intersecting Star was made with four bills from Brazil, Zambia, Egypt, and Bolivia.

Canadian Star Ball was made with two Canadian $5 bills.

Iraqi Bloom was constructed out of three dinar bills.

This is certainly a long way from those elementary school exploits of folding a US $1 bill so George Washington’s head looked like a mushroom.

Thanks to Colossal and My Modern Met for the heads-up about the very talented Kristi Malakoff.

Above the Fold

My origami talents started and stopped in the third grade when I learned how to make paper cranes. It’s safe to say that French artiste Mademoiselle Maurice is quite a bit more talented in the origami department, as is evidenced in her Parisian street art installations. Her use of color and negative space results in wonderful rainbow paper surprises throughout the city.

Crazy For Bleu

Perusing Pinterest the other night, I came across the Etsy shop of Bleu de Toi (which translates to ‘crazy for you’ in French), “home of the guest book fingerprint tree and other original designs for wedding, baby and home.” As you can see from the photos, husband and wife team Joshua and Hilary provide you with a beautiful custom drawing, and your choice of ink pad colors for your event. Then you let your guests add their unique fingerprints. What a beautiful and thoughtful keepsake.
