Mmm mmm good

Apparently the soup can’s fifteen minutes are not up yet.

Campbell’s soup has gotten a Warhol-inspired make-over and will go on sale at Target this weekend. 50 years ago, Andy Warhol created “Campbell’s Soup Cans” and the company is commemorating that anniversary with four pop art cans complete with quotes from the artist.

Just to review: art was created with soup cans as the subject, only to later have those same soup cans imitate the artwork in which they were a subject. It’s this wild, meta, infinite loop of life imitating art imitating life.

Appreciation is a Red Bike

Many companies have a mission statement which they staple to the wall and never discuss again. Clif Bar is not one of those companies. They have 5 main aspirations that inform their company decisions: Sustaining their planet, community, people, business, and brands. Sounds like good stuff, right? And they really do their part.

You may have heard that the idea for Clif Bar was born while the founder was on a bike ride. So when it came time to celebrate the company’s 20th anniversary, the co-CEOs decided to make it really special and gift all of their employees with a bicycle. Yep, 300+ employees were surprised with a special red PUBLIC bike. As if that’s not awesome enough, each one was personalized with the employee’s name and year they joined the company.

While this is no doubt a very generous gift, I find it even more inspiring that the company found a very tangible way to live up to its aspirations of sustaining the planet, community, and people. To be honest, I want to stock up on Clif Bars now!

All of these photos are from PUBLIC. As you might imagine, they were very excited to take part in this fun project, especially as a company also committed to improving its community. If you think PUBLIC bikes look familiar, it could be because Brooke posted about it here, where she admits she has a big crush on my orange bike. I don’t blame her – it’s awesome. Now I just need to fill my bike basket with Clif Bars in support of this cool company.

Get out

I’m of the opinion that the only thing better than sharing a good meal with friends is sharing that meal outside. While Independence Day is a great excuse to get outside and eat grilled burgers, we don’t need to wait for major historic events to enjoy a picnic. It turns out that the creative folks behind Boxsal share my affinity for outdoor eating.

Boxsal offers eco-friendly picnic boxes complete with compostable plates and utensils. The boxes are big enough to fit all the important stuff (like wine and cheese) and they’re decorated with cool graphics, like the paint-by-number picture on the Today’s Date box.

White on White

French macarons are colorful enough that they don’t need a lot of help when it comes to looking desirable. The designers at Anagrama had the same idea when creating branding for Theurel & Thomas, a high end macaron pâtisserie in Mexico. By using white, white, and more white, the branding and the location itself simply gleam with sophistication.
