There Is Pretty

This particular gig may be long over, but we can’t stop looking at this gorgeous poster for a Decemberists show by Sean Freeman of East London’s There Is. He specializes in illustration, art direction and creative typography—and that is clear in this piece.

Well Played

The album cover has become a lost art — blame it on the digital music world — so it’s refreshing once in a while to still happen upon a stunning album cover design that clearly involved a great deal of work. This is very true for John Mayer’s latest album, Born & Raised, the cover for which was meticulously hand-drawn by David Adrian Smith. Smith is a master of his craft and the photos documenting his process, which included several drafts and approaches, are simultaneously awe-inducing and exhausting to comprehend.

If Movies Had Crappy Fonts

We are cracking up and nodding our heads in agreement with this video clip, highlighting how the wrong typeface used in the opening credits of a movie can completely ruin the entire thing.

Typography is a powerful (and memorable) thing… are there any favorite type-driven opening credits that stick out in your mind?

Words With Designer Friends

A-1 Scrabble designer edition? Yes, please. Designer Andrew Clifford Capener set out to “revive an old, but loved game. The idea was to excite people about typography by giving them the ability to choose what font their scrabble set would come in. The set would be available in the font of your choice or with an assorted font pack.” Sounds like fun, before the game’s even begun.
